Top 8 Things To Do In Vietnam

Working out the must-sees and must do’s of a country you’ve never visited before can be overwhelming. And there’s no guessing why when we not only have Google to consult, but tons of travel blogs, thousands of travel websites and hundreds of social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, YouTube…(the list goes on)…

Most of these things were already on our list before working out how to travel around Vietnam and deciding on our 2 week itinerary, but these are the top things we did that really stood out for me. If you’re heading out there make sure they’re on your list too!

TOP THINGS TO DO IN VIETNAM…

1.TREK THE SAPA HILLS

Meet members of ethnic tribal minorities in villages huddled in the lush green hills near Sapa, and stay overnight with locals in their rustic mountain homes. (If you’re heading to Sapa check out this post on the various ways of getting up there).

2. CRUISE THROUGH HALONG BAY

Take an overnight boat trip and sail around the UNESCO world heritage site on a traditional Chinese sail boat. From sea kayaking through the clear waters to exploring incredible caves, Halong bay is a must on any trip to Vietnam.

3. EXPLORE HOI AN

Wander the local fruit and vegetable markets of the ancient port town Hoi An. Unlike many of the other cities in Vietnam, Hoi An feels considerably more laid back…make the most of it! Check out these top 12 things to do in Hoi an for ideas on what to do during your visit.

4. BIKE THE HAI VAN PASS

Bike the incredible lush mountains of the Hai Van Pass between Hoi An and Hue and stop at the top for a refreshing drink looking down over the most dramatic scenery you ever laid eyes on.

5. SEE THE MEKONG DELTA

Cruise down the Mekong Delta to see fishermen with their nets and farmers working on the land. Stop by a traditional home to see them making rice paper with a ladle and grind.

6. GET TO PHONG NHA-KE BANG NATIONAL PARK

Hop into a boat at Phong Nha and sail into the great caves. If you have time why not try zip lining over the crystal clear blue waters, or try a mud trek in the dark through the depths of the caves.

7. HIKE MONKEY ISLAND

Hike up the cliffs of Monkey Island to get fantastic sweeping views of the ocean below. Warning…not to be done in flip flops!

8. SEE A WATER PUPPET SHOW IN HANOI

Explore the old streets of Hanoi and soak in the people, culture and way of life of the city. Get a street side haircut or watch a water puppet show, an account of historical legends and folk tales told through music and traditional puppetry.

Is there somewhere you visited in Vietnam that you would recommend? 🙂
